The Bald Hills / Gold Bluffs Beach
the purpose is to get off the beaten path of the normal coastal routes that run out of Southern Oregon.
The ride does just that as very few frequent it as their normal choice for getting there. We love it!
The campground lies in the dunes along a beautiful 10-mile stretch of golden beach in northwestern California. As part of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, it is located six miles off Hwy 101 at the end of unpaved, Davison Rd. So, you may find yourselves just about the only people around, and for those who want to experience the joys of nature, you've come to the right place. Farther up Gold Bluffs Beach is an easy 3/4-mile, 20-minute trail that loops through a steep, 50-foot-high canyon with walls covered by lush ferns. You might need waterproof footwear for the Fern Canyon Trail, which can be quite wet after a rain. Bald Hills Road is a very scenic drive in the Redwood National and State Parks, in California.
The road is mostly paved. It’s 17 miles long and encompasses miles of stunning views through twisty hair pin corners, high elevations and steep grades. Ascend a steep, 15 percent grade through old-growth redwoods before passing through several open prairies resplendent with spring wildflowers, Roosevelt elk, and black bear. Along the way, the Redwood Creek Overlook provides outstanding views of its namesake drainage as well as the Pacific Ocean in the distance.
