ROAM "ROGUE OVERLAND ADVENTURE MOVEMENT"
This movement has been inspired by the renovation of an old pick-up truck that I share a great deal of commonality with. It has had many uses along with its share of break downs and has hung in there with me. It has provided a lot of discovery and stuck with me during some of the best and worst discoveries about myself. I know it's just a stupid truck but it is like me in more ways than one can even imagine. I have made the determination to restore it because it has provided great memories; Stories that have developed me into who I am today along with a love for the overlanding experience and the One who created it all. As I have traveled over the years, a renovation and renewal has taken place in my personal life. I believe that I have been hardwired for living this way and love to share the restorative process of my personal adventures in the backcountry with God. When others distanced from me, the Lord was with me in the remote places and feelings of my life. It has renewed my love for the work He does in our story. He brought hope when I was alone. I found Him in the Backcountry. He was with me all the time.

DISCOVER OVERLANDING
WHAT IS OVERLANDING?
At first, the terminology conjures a mental picture of your flight running of the end of the runway right? However, it is all about History, Lifestyle, Discovery and Story. These are the core values of a great Overlanding experience and it is up to you to decide what that looks like.
Overlanding has hit the States with a vengeance, largely because people yearn for the opportunity to breath fresh air, enjoy cooking outdoors and the smell of a campfire. With it comes knowledge and life experiences that you won't find anywhere else. Perhaps more folks are wanting to get away from the city madness! Whatever the reasons, overlanding gives you an opportunity to explore the world, learn from it and to see your story in the way that God sees you in it.
At "Rogue Overland Adventure Movement" we have always been enthusiasts of overlanding. We want to share the things we are learning as we go on adventure and even more so, want to share in your experiences while on adventure. It is our hope that in doing so, we can help each other and learn from each other, while enjoying the Creator and all of His creation.

Overlanding is often confused with off-roading. Off-roading is a type of adventure that takes place on un-surfaced roads or no roads at all. It is different from overlanding where the type of road is not an issue. Overlanding can often take you through rough terrains and off-road trails, but climbing a super steep trail just to say you did, is not the objective. Our goal is to get to uncommon places, rarely visited and doing it safely with a few creature comforts that make the experience enjoyable and even memorable.
Overland travel should not be mistaken for a road trip. Road trips usually have some sort of lodging and a destination of sorts, whereas overlanding is about the journey itself. Part of the appeal to Overlang for us is getting of grid enough where the primary mode of accommodation is camping along with all of the fun and challenge that comes with it.
This style of self-reliant travel entails using usually an off-road vehicle, a van, or SUV to cover a long distance, typically in a remote area. Again, more emphasis is placed on the journey and taking in the landscape rather than any destination. It opens up a world of opportunities for those who love to discover the backcountry on their terms and at their own pace. It's not for everyone, however, the opportunity to make unforgettable memories are unrivaled.
The Overlanding influence has its roots in places like Australia, and has been referred to as driving cattle long distances across the Outback. Later, road construction crews used it as they opened up the vast landscapes that characterize the Australian wilderness. Today, overlanders are coming with some seriously innovative gear and have taken this concept to an entirely new level. It has become quite common for people to go overlanding for weeks, months and in some cases even years to remote regions of the world.
One of the most common misconceptions about overlanding is that you have to be young, child free, and in the same sort of peak physical shape as a highschool football star. This is, in fact, not true; Overlanding can be an epic family adventure for people of any age or almost any fitness level. Now, granted you may not be dropping 10,000 feet from an aeroplane into your backcountry destination like some young buck, but I can double guarantee you they'll be glad to see those who's Granddad was smart enough to figure out how to get the whole family and all of their creature comforts into the middle of nowhere!
Now, there is no doubt that on occasion you may have to dig your vehicle out of a hole, and that you of course probably need to have at least a mild attraction to the great outdoors; But the later is a given and getting out of the whole is what children and grandchildren are for. After all, you would never want to deprive them of that experience!
On matters of tech, some people may think that overlanding means they will have to disconnect from their electronic devices and be forced to live like a nomad for weeks. (I do highly recommend it) However, if you genuinely require your tools for work while overlanding, it's become easier to utilize your devices whilst on the road. With advances in battery technology, you can bring enough juice with you to power your devices.

- Don't forget that nature is relentless. If you hope to survive out there, you need to respect it. If this mentality is in your wheelhouse then it is something you can do, overlanding was designed for you. It may just be the very thing that scratches you itch!
- Keep it simple. When going to the outdoors, it is essential that you keep things simple. Always avoid over packing for your outdoor adventure.
- Understand the basics. If you want to make it on your trip, you have to be ready to ask all the right questions. Do not be afraid to look naive to fellow overlanders. It is better to have the proper knowledge and be labeled a newbie than to wing it and fail.
- Most importantly! Take others with you. Do life together and make it a priority to enjoy the Good Lord while you are out there.
- Be willing to share. You are part of a young but growing community. The best way to support each other is by sharing.
- You have to be willing to tell fellow overlanders about your experiences and any lessons you learned. Besides that, if you discover a new route, ensure that those in the community know about it.
- The type of vehicle does not matter. Overlanding is not tied to any brand or model. The only requirement is that you pick a vehicle that is up to the task and is able to do the trip safely.
- There is no competition between overlanders. This is not about competing who has the best model or who has better gear. Experiencing nature, outdoors and culture is more important than any gear you have.
- Giving advice is an important pillar. The overlanding community will always be ready to offer advice on what you need to make your vehicle available for a trip. For instance, if the car requires any modifications, you will be advised and helped. There is tons of information out there.
- It is okay to admit you do not know. Honest advice drives this community. If you do not know the answer to something, it is better to say so than give wrong information to a fellow overlander.
- Ask for advice. In the overlanding community, it is about sharing and growing, if you have no idea how something works, always ask for help even though it may seem stupid. It is all about fun. We want to ensure everyone has a positive experience on their journey.

WHAT'S THIS ABOUT?: We will gather at IRR - I Ride Rogue outside Jacksonville. 5415 Hwy 238 jacksonville, OR. 97530 Hwy 238 at 3:00 pm. From there it is about a 40 minute trip up to the campground nestled at the roots of the Red Butte Wilderness. This is an overnight man campout with an emphasis on Adventure, Hope, and Story. With every "Boondocking Event" there will be fireside discussion centered on things we work through as spiritual men. We keep it light, fun, authentic, and encouraging so you'll never have to feel uncomfortable about inviting a friend.
